ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Black Farmer Fund (BFF) is seeking a full-time SeniorImpact Investment Manager to lead the underwriting, structuring, and management of our investment portfolio. In a traditional Community Finance Institution (CFI), this role would be equivalent to a Lending Officer, but at BFF it also centers on advancing racial, economic, and climate justice in the food system.
The Impact Investment Manager will:
Independently manage deals from intake through closing.
Conduct thorough financial and operational due diligence.
Structure and negotiate investment terms.
Monitor portfolio performance and provide support for restructuring when needed.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical lending skills—including financial analysis, due diligence, and loan structuring—with a commitment to supporting Black farmers and driving equitable impact in the food and agriculture sectors. This role reports directly to the Investment Director.

$85,000 - $95,000 depending on experience;

RESPONSIBILITIES
Investment Sourcing & Underwriting (60%)
Manage financial due diligence on prospective investments, including review of financial statements, cash flow projections, credit analysis, collateral, and risk assessment.
Draft and present investment memos to the Investment Committee with clear recommendations.
Structure loan and integrated capital packages (loans, grants, technical assistance) in alignment with BFF’s non-extractive principles.
Negotiate loan terms and coordinate with legal counsel to finalize documentation.
Develop financial models and conduct scenario stress-testing.
Portfolio Management & Servicing (25%)
Monitor borrower performance through regular reporting, site visits, and relationship management.
Identify early warning signals of repayment challenges and design/implement restructuring strategies as needed.
Maintain accurate loan servicing records, impact tracking, and covenant monitoring.
Collaborate with the Business Support team to align technical assistance with portfolio needs.
Pipeline Development & Ecosystem Engagement (10%)
Identify and evaluate new investment opportunities aligned with BFF’s mission.
Build and maintain relationships with food system entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and ecosystem partners.Represent BFF’s investment strategy at outreach events, workshops, and panels.
Reporting & Communications (5%)
Prepare analyses of total portfolio performance and risk profile for internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with Communications to develop investment case studies and impact storytelling.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
6+ years of direct experience in small business lending, CDFIs, community banks, or impact investing funds, including underwriting responsibility.
Demonstrated track record of credit analysis, investment structuring, and portfolio monitoring.
Strong financial modeling, Excel, and quantitative analysis skills.
Preferred:
Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CFA, CRED).
Background in agricultural lending, food systems finance, or related sectors.
Experience managing problem loans and restructures.
Familiarity with integrated capital models and non-extractive lending approaches.

Black Farmer Fund seeks a full-time Senior Business Support Manager to manage the administration of the fund’s loan portfolio, ensuring optimal performance, risk mitigation, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Business Support Manager plays a critical role in ensuring strong portfolio performance by providing strategic post-loan support to borrowers and proactively monitoring risk. This position is responsible for overseeing the ongoing health of BFF’s investment portfolio by maintaining regular engagement with funded businesses, identifying signs of repayment risk early, and offering timely support and interventions. The Business Support Manager ensures that all investments remain aligned with BFF’s impact covenants and that business owners have the guidance and resources they need to succeed after receiving capital.The Business Support Manager reports to the Investment Director and collaborates closely with the Investment Team and Senior Leadership to support investees post closing by providing business technical assistance to implement practical and meaningful changes to their operations, support investment decisions, and maintain a healthy non-traditional investment environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Support Tracking & Operations (50%)
Manage and monitor the organization’s loan portfolio to ensure compliance with policies and investment guidelines.
Make recommendations to the Investment Director and provide feedback as necessary to identify and mitigate potential risks in the loan portfolio by developing risk management strategies.
Work closely with Investment Teams to recommend credit policy adjustments.
Collaborate with the Investment Director to identify borrowers needing post-loan technical assistance based on financial performance, repayment behavior, or operational challenges.
Report and monitor key loan performance indicators, including repayment status, borrower financial health, and early signs of portfolio risks. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess investment impact and the borrower’s progress toward growth and wealth-building.
Lead and provide technical assistance and business support to portfolio investees as appropriate.
Report on status of investees as requested during weekly team check-in.
Data Administration & Financial Analysis (40%)
Analyze financial statements, credit information, and borrower history to assess loan performance post-closing.
Ensure proper documentation and adherence to internal investment policies and procedures.
Conduct regular portfolio reviews and prepare impact and other reports for senior leadership.
Collect, organize and log relevant financial information on investees and draft social impact reports as requested;
Ensure sensitive information is stored securely; maintain data retention policies
Additional administrative responsibilities as assigned;
Office, Project Management & Communications - 10%
Prepare and present analyses of the total portfolio performance and risk profile

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
6+ years of experience in loan portfolio management, credit analysis, or risk management.Strong understanding of financial analysis, risk assessment, and credit policies.Ability to analyze financial statements and assess borrower performance using quantitative and qualitative data.
Experience working with small business owners or entrepreneurs, particularly from underrepresented communities.
Demonstrated skill in monitoring loan performance, identifying early signs of risk, and shaping responses or interventions.
Familiarity with loan servicing systems, CRM tools, and data management platforms (e.g., Salesforce, DownHome, MadeMarket, or similar).
Knowledge of BFF’s investment guidelines and industry best practices in lending and portfolio management.
