This Black History Month, we're honored to share an original poem, "I Keep Moving," from our Finance Director, Janet Gumbs. Inspired by a past experience recounted to a friend, Janet's words capture not only her personal resilience but also the broader spirit of strength and perseverance within our community in the face of challenges.

I Keep Moving

I Keep Moving

My friend said I am strong

Because I keep moving.

Even when the obstacles appear to be insurmountable

I keep moving.

When I hit the dead-end that rise up before me like an impenetrable wall

I keep moving.

When loved ones reject and abuse me

I keep moving.

I keep moving

Because I live not for myself but for those who look up to me

In the absence of my gaze

I keep moving

Because I’ve been told that

There is a reward at the end of my journey

So I keep my eye on the prize

As I keep moving on.
